Content Filtering

The internet, minus the parts you don't want

Block inappropriate content on your kid's phone automatically — age presets set every category at once, or fine-tune any of 15 individually: adult content, gambling, violence, social media, and more. Filtering runs as a local, on-device VPN: nothing ever leaves the phone or reaches a Paxio server.

15 categories, filtered on-device

Paxio is a parental control adult-content blocker that stops inappropriate websites before they load. Age presets set every content category at once, or fine-tune any of 15 individually — adult content, gambling, violence, social media, and more. Filtering runs as a local, on-device VPN: nothing ever leaves the phone or reaches a Paxio server.

The details

How it actually works

Age presets or manual control

Start simple, then adjust as needed.

  • Four presets — Under 7, 8–10, Teen, Open — set every category at once based on age.
  • Any of the 15 individual categories can be fine-tuned afterward: adult content, gambling, violence, social networks, and more.
  • Presets are a starting point, not a lock — change any category any time.

How filtering actually works

It's DNS-based, not a content scanner.

  • Paxio runs a local, on-device VPN that inspects DNS requests against a blocklist — no browsing content is ever read or transmitted.
  • Nothing leaves the device: filtering decisions happen locally, not on a Paxio server.
  • Blocklists update from the app itself, not a live remote lookup on every request.

What gets blocked

A visit is stopped before the page loads.

  • A blocked site shows a simple “blocked” screen instead of loading.
  • Repeated attempts to reach a blocked category are debounced, so one blocked domain doesn't spam the log.
  • Blocked-visit activity appears on the Reports screen for review.

FAQ

Content Filtering — common questions

Does content filtering see my child's browsing history?

No — filtering works by inspecting DNS requests against a blocklist entirely on the device. No browsing content or history is ever transmitted to or stored on a Paxio server.

Which categories can be filtered?

15 categories total, including adult content, gambling, violence, and social networks — each can be toggled individually, or set all at once with an age preset.

Will content filtering slow down the phone or the internet?

The on-device VPN only inspects DNS lookups, not full traffic, so the performance impact is minimal.

Does content filtering work in every app, or just the browser?

It applies device-wide at the DNS level, so it covers browsers and any app that makes web requests, not just one browser.
